Flight track
Primo volo con l’istruttore — che esperienza! Venti minuti di ispezione pre-volo prima della partenza. Ho controllato tutto: dalle ruote ai freni, dal timone di direzione a tutte le superfici esterne. Poi abbiamo verificato il carburante e fatto l’ispezione interna. Tutto a posto, ci siamo fatti consegnare le chiavi. Ho avviato il motore, eseguito i controlli magneti e freni, e poi ho rullato verso la pista. L’istruttore mi ha detto che il decollo era mio — con il suo aiuto, ovviamente. Manetta tutta avanti. Tenersi allineati era difficile, ma dopo il decollo ho sentito ogni singola raffica di vento e ho dovuto compensare con il suo aiuto.
Abbiamo puntato dritto verso Mozzate, poi virata verso Malnate. Il Parco Pineta era bellissimo, e il Monte Generoso e San Giorgio sono apparsi proprio davanti a me. Alla mia sinistra Campo dei Fiori e il lago di Varese. Poi un’altra virata, e l’istruttore ha ripreso i comandi per l’atterraggio. Eravamo troppo alti, così ha eseguito una virata stretta per perdere quota. Devo ammettere che all’inizio mi sono spaventato — non capivo ancora appieno le capacità manovriere dell’aereo, e per qualche secondo ho pensato: «Ok, questo non fa per me. Questo è il mio ultimo volo.» Ma poi ho cominciato a prendere confidenza. E alla fine è stato fantastico.
My first flight with an instructor — what an experience! Twenty minutes of pre-flight checks before departure. I checked everything from the wheels to the brakes, from the rudder to all the external surfaces. Then we checked the fuel and did an internal inspection. Once everything was good, we received the keys. I started the engine, performed the magneto checks and brake checks, and then taxied out. The instructor said I was in charge of the takeoff — with his help, of course. Full throttle. It was hard to keep the aircraft aligned, but after takeoff I felt every single wind shear and had to balance it with his help.
We headed straight toward Mozzate, then turned toward Malnate. The whole Parco Pineta was beautiful, and Monte Generoso and San Giorgio appeared right in front of me. On my left were Campo dei Fiori and Varese Lake. Then another turn, and the instructor took over for the landing. Since we were too high, he made a steep turn to lose height. I have to admit I was frightened at the beginning — I didn’t fully understand the aircraft’s maneuvering capabilities, and for a few seconds I thought: “OK, this is not for me. This is my last flight.” But then I started to feel more confident. And in the end, I was super happy.
